Campus Consortium for Environmental Excellence (C2E2)
Nexus has administered the C2E2 since its inception in 1997. Nexus provides a wide variety of services to this unique, leadership organization, including strategic direction, board management, administrative services, event and project management, facilitation, and product development. Tom Balf has served as the organization’s Director for the past ten years. The C2E2 is a not-for-profit initiative designed to promote innovative regulatory programs and develop resources to improve environmental performance on college and university campuses. Stonehill College
Nexus has provided out-sourced environmental, health and safety consulting services to this small, catholic college in southeast Massachusetts. Services include acting as the chemical hygiene officer, arranging for hazardous waste disposal services, training, policy and procedure development, periodic inspections and steady on-going support for compliance with applicable EH&S obligations.

Carnegie Mellon University
Nexus has provided Carnegie Mellon University with an array of strategic and regulatory services. Nexus has conducted periodic regulatory compliance audits for the campus covering all applicable federal, state and local regulations. Nexus was also asked to review the EH&S Departmental web site, including conducting user interviews and benchmarking peer institutions, and recommend site improvements and modified web site design.

Georgetown University
Nexus Environmental Partners conducted an initial assessment of Georgetown sustainability practices. The scope of the sustainability assessment was limited to “environmental” practices. The assessment reviewed practices in the following areas: dining services, endowment management, energy management and greenhouse gas emissions, green building, landscaping and land use, solid waste management and recycling, transportation and water usage. The report provides a comprehensive inventory of Georgetown environmental projects and initiatives over the last quarter of a century.

Massachusetts Biotechnology Council
Nexus has advised the MBC with respect to environmental legislative, regulatory and community issues for many years. In addition, Nexus has supported the MBC in its interactions with key policy makers and interested stakeholders with respect to legislative and local initiatives that promote economic development and appropriate regulations and programs to assure worker and community safety.

Campus Safety and Environmental Management Association (CSHEMA)
Nexus was engaged by CSHEMA to evaluate the legal, strategic and management issues associated with CSHEMA’s pursuit of an aggressive growth proposal which hinged, in part, on whether to remain part of the National Safety Council or become a wholly independent organization. Nexus provided legal review, association benchmark information, financial scenarios and outreach communications to assist the Executive Committee, and ultimately its members, determine the organization’s preferred strategic direction.

National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO)
For the past year, Nexus has assisted NACUBO in the development of the Campus Environmental Resources Center (www.campuserc.org) which is designed as an institution’s primary source for comprehensive compliance assistance and pollution prevention information. Nexus assisted in the design of the site, focus group management, content building and outreach. We continue to provide regular updates to the site including monthly news, rule revisions, model practices and new resources.

Wellesley College
Nexus has provided strategic and compliance services to this small, liberal arts college. Services include evaluation of departmental time management and project prioritization, development of a focused EMS, compliance program evaluations, support for their web-based compliance database, and consulting support.

Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection
Nexus Environmental Partners provided Environmental Management Systems (EMS) training to key staff members from multiple state agencies. The three-day course involved presentations, facilitated exercises, role playing and extensive discussion. The purpose of the training was to familiarize staff with key EMS principles and program elements, implementation hurdles and auditing guidance to support the incorporation of EMS into policy and program development, and implement EMS at selected state facilities.

Product Stewardship Institute
Nexus has, for many years, assisted PSI with research, strategic guidance and facilitation services with respect to product stewardship issues associated with certain gauging devices that employ radioactive materials. Over the last few years, we have provided strategic guidance and research support to PSI, and EPA, in exploring alternative (e.g., non-nuclear) technologies and barriers (e.g., regulatory, financial, technical) to the purchase and use of alternative devices.
